Under 13 Warriors to play District Grand Final
Wellington Warriors Under 13s will meet South Dubbo Wanderers (SDW) Eagles in the Under 13s division 2 Grand Final this Saturday morning.
The game will be a re-match of the major semi final from 2 weeks ago where Wellington rolled the Eagles 2 - 1 in a much celebrated 'come from behind' win.
The previous match was a really hard fought affair which tested the Wellington side & this time around is expected to be no different.
Get along to Dubbo's Lady Cutler Oval at 9:00am on Saturday (9 Sep) & support the Wellington kids.
The Under 17 Warriors bowed out of the Dubbo District competition with a narrow 2 - 3 loss to Newtown Devils in last weekends elimination final.
Injuries have frustrated the 17s side this season and this match was no different with playmaker Claude Lewsam surcoming to a groin injury before half time & others either carrying injuries or not taking the field at all.
Newtown took advantage & opened an early 2 - 0 lead which they retained until the 2nd half when the Wellington lads staged a comeback with Franky knocking in a long range free kick & Jerry sneaking one past the defense however an error in the Wellington backline cost them another goal and although the Devils were flagging badly with all the play in their end they held on to take the win.
Congratulations to the coach Damien Beattie and all the players for making it thru to the finals again in the pinnacle division of the district junior comp.
The Maroons played SASS Meteors at home and to begin with appeared to be suffering from running on straight after their Club games as SASS forwards dominated.
Then a fantastic team goal brought the Warriors back into it from then it was a closely contested game with a great display of sportsmanship from both sides, with SASS coach commenting that it was a great game played in good spirit.
.Liam Miller was a stand out this week.
Message from the U11 Maroons Coach Jo Clark.
Firstly, thanks to Geert for doing such a fantastic job of refereeing this week. Both teams appreciated his fairness and willingness to educate the players about his decisions.
